About Joey-

Joey started playing guitar at 4 years old. In the 80’s and 90’s He studied with different music professors and has been a teacher himself since 1994. He has played in many bands since 1981, and has played countless club dates, parties and concerts. There have been quite a few artists that have had him play on their albums as as well… Heck, he even sings also! :)

“Playing any musical instrument is one of the most fulfilling creative experiences anyone can have”…..

…Learning to play music is FUN! But there are no shortcuts. Just like learning art, sports, or dance. If you practice, you get better, its that simple! I can say for myself, creating, performing and recording my own music for years has felt unparalleled by nothing in my life…except for having my kids….I also provide professional recording services in my studio as well. Click the button at the bottom of this page to request a call. We will find out if we are a good fit and go from there! I am located in Riverside California, and can do online live lessons too.. I hope to hear you here!

Joe has been teaching for Eagles Peak and Riversprings Charter schools since the year 2000. He’s been playing guitar since 1978, and teaching guitar full time since 1995. He also records solo artists in his private recording studio on premises. He won Song of the Year in 2009 from Recording Magazine.

This past year I began taking guitar lessons from Joe after learning a few basic chords on my own. Joe taught me the basics and so much more. He encourages me to write my own music, records my progress with his studio equipment and builds up my self-confidence. I am now playing in a band and actually getting paid for it!!! Joe is the coolest guitar teacher ever, and i look forward to my lessons each week.

I have played in a few bands over the years and recently had an opportunity to play live in Nashville, Tucson, San Jose, (Monterrey this year), on a tour boat, a few venues for the city and a half dozen restaurants. I still cant light a candle to Joes ability and know how. If I am learning a difficult song or specific technique Joe can figure it out in minutes, wheareas it takes me weeks and I never play it right until Joe shows me how. Not only can Joe play and teach several styles he understands music theory, employes a step by step simplified teaching style taylored to ones ability. Joe has help me understand why and what I am doing, how to improve my limited skill level by practice, practice, practice. If you really love music and are serious about improving your skills as a beginner or experienced guitar player I highly recommend you let Joe teach you how do it the correct way.

We think that Joe Harter does an amazing job with guitar lessons. Both of our daughters took lessons from him for over a year and learned so much. He is not only a gifted teacher, but also very patient and understanding no matter what level that the students are at. He is very encouraging and funny too. :-)We wholeheartedly recommend Joe Harter to everyone… Shainie and Forrest R.

Joe is the best teacher around! I had played on my own for years without taking any lessons at all. Then Joe showed me some things I never knew about and it improved my playing really dramatically in just a few weeks. With his help (and a lot of practice) I was playing better in a few months than I ever was just trying to learn by myself. The other thing about Joe is a MONSTER player himself. And hes been out there as a gigging musician, playing for years in the top clubs in LA. So hes not just a great teacher, hes really been there and knows what it takes to be a successful working player. So if you want a guy whos not just a great teacher, but also a killer player and somebody whos been out there in the trenches, Joe is the guy you want.

My guitar journey began about a year and a half ago when on a whim I had some extra money and decided “what the heck” im going to go buy a guitar! Ive always been interested in music and music making but never thought I was talented and KNEW I couldnt ever play any type of metal or cool rock type music. Despite that I stuck with it in spite of being overshadowed from all my musical friends I decided I wanted to join them and play too! So a year into my journey I realized there was so much I didnt understand and needed to expand my skills I was at the point where I didnt know what I needed to teach myself to get where I wanted too. After meeting Joe through a friend I realized he definately had the skills that I craved but after the first session I realized that he was also an amazing teacher and knew how to teach quite well. After the first lesson I also signed up for an entire hour since I really enjoyed my time and still look forward to my lessons each week. A few months later and now Ive really grown as a guitarist I can do things I honestly wasnt sure if I could manage before. Not only my skills have grown but my confidence as well as my understanding of theory. Joe breaks it up into easy to swallow chunks that makes what ive never been able to teach myself finally reachable. He had done more for my confidence on the fretboard than anything else I have learned and continue to look forward to my lessons each week. I highly recommend him as a teacher and think that anyone who has the slightest interest in learning guitar (its my understanding he teaches bass too) of any style (he really can do a lot). Would be foolish not to learn from him its affordable, and he makes the lessons fun. Plus hes a funny guy.

Bottom line…. Consider replacing a few of the devices or digital areas in your, or your families lives with some good ol’ activities. You know… bike racing, street football, ping-pong, playgrounds, and…instruments!!

Let’s chat and see if we are a good fit!
